Grilled bananas with lime

ou weren't planning on doing a sweet course, but now you really feel like something? Fine, just heat the (indoors, overhead) grill, split a few bananas, sprinkle with sugar and grill. Serve with crème fraiche, sour cream, yoghurt, or an interesting ice-cream.

Feeds 4

  • 4 firm bananas
  • 4 dsp granulated sugar
  • crème fraiche, yoghurt, ice-cream, etc
  • 1 lime
  1. Heat the overhead grill. Cut each banana lengthwise, still in its skin, and arrange on a sheet of kitchen foil. Sprinkle the cut side with sugar, and grill for 5 minutes, watching carefully. You want the sugar to bubble and brown a little, but not burn.

  2. Use an egg slice to remove the now-soft, toffeed bananas to four plates. Add something cold and creamy - crème fraiche, sour cream, yoghurt, or ice-cream, and serve with a wedge of lime for squeezing on the bananas. Serve hot.
